Stanchion Mount 03
Notes addressed
- shade while underway doesn't obstruct boom sheets
- boom length is estimated at 5 meters
This design explores the possibility of keeping more sun shade up while under sail.
Maximum condition for boom and sheets shown (cross hatched light blue).
The hoops for the forward shade (blue and gray) are not shown.
The boom length is estimated at 5 meters. A more accurate model will be provided upon review.
It seems like a lot of complexity for little gain. There's a 67cm gap in sun protection under sail. Perhaps zippered patches between could be employed only in the sections that weren't obstructing boom lines. But then with each tack, readjustment.
Decisions about the 4 configurations must be made.
Plan for 4 configurations
- stationary
- maximum sun and wind protection.
- can use boom for attachment / stability.
- minimum hardware required.
- motoring
- high sun protection,
- compromise between wind comfort and Bimini stability.
- can use boom for attachment?
- Provide shade for Helmsman at the stern.
- light sailing
- No attachment to boom possible.
- Bimini must not interfere with
- boom
- boom sheets
- mast stays
- winch handlers
- cockpit egress
- Provide shade for Helmsman at the stern.
- racing
- Bimini is stored below, dismantles to fit into stowage.
